Alcudia
Alcudia, on the North-East coast of Majorca, is one of the most popular Balearic resorts with English-speaking holidaymakers. Alcudia has miles of golden sands stretching rom the Port of Alcudia through to Playa de Muro.
The Port of Alcudia offers fantastic fish restaurants and also a wide choice of bars and restaurants which offer local Mallorquin food as well as Mediterranean dishes. Also easily available are bars thats serve the traditional full English breakfast, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and of course a pint of bitter.
The old town is approximately 2 miles inland and was the capital of Mallorca in Roman times, although originally dating back even further to the Phoenician and Greek times. A new city was built on the Roman site, the medieval walls and gates being added after the Spanish conquest in 1229.
Today the area within the town walls still contains many ancient mansions, many of which now are the home of shops, cafes and "tapas" bars. Entry is via the "Portal del Moll", the ancient gateway from the port.
Alcudia market is on Tuesdays and Sundays from 8am till 2pm.
